“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

Has your heart ever been so intensely broken, that it feels crushed?

Our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, felt this way when He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, before His betrayal and crucifixion on the cross. His heart was broken to the point, that blood was being poured out with His sweat. The intense burden of our sin, was being laid upon Him, and He was crushed to the core with grief.

Jesus knows what it is like to be brokenhearted. He is fully God, yet fully human and has feelings just as we do. There is nothing more comforting than knowing Jesus understands us completely. He intimately knows our heart and our motives. Nothing is hidden from Him.

Jesus is able to comfort us, when we turn towards Him. He desires to come close and to save us, when our spirit feels crushed.

“You have searched me, LORD, and You know me; You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue You, LORD, know it completely” (Psalm 139:1-4).

No matter what we are going through, we have a God who is intimately acquainted with all of our ways. He knows our heart and understands our brokenness. There is no one like Him.

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

God desires a personal relationship with each of us, but He never forces Himself upon us. His desire is for us to seek Him in our brokenness, so that He may come close and save us. Our God is and awesome God! There is none other like Him!
